There may have been an election at the weekend.

I went for a quick search this morning around some of the loony left blogs to get their reaction to the elections in Iraq.

Election? What election?

Chris (of death) Sheil has nothing to say.
Apart from the usual, shameless self promotion, Darp has nothing to say.
Apart from shamelessly promoting Darp (love is in the air I think!), Weezil has nothing to say.
She Sells Sanctuary has nothing to say.
Anonymous Lefty has nothing to say. Update: Comment has now been made, but guess what? It was a whinge!
Troppo Armadillo has nothing to say. Update: My mistake. The Armadillies have made comment. Thanks TimT for the heads up.
Psephological Catechism has nothing to say.
Piss n Vinegar has nothing to say. Update: Comment has now reluctantly been made. Mainly it was a whinge about me though. But, nevertheless, it was a whinge.
Robert Corr has nothing to say.
Richard Neville has nothing (coherent) to say.
The Line of Contempt has nothing to say.
Finally... over at John Quiggins place, we get the only comment... and it's bad. He, apparently, is concerned that "there’s always the risk that the Americans will make a unilateral decision to cut and run at the worst possible moment."

Gutless, whinging, fuckwits who make no positive contribution... the lot of 'em!

gee, i'm flattered that my opinion is so important to you, whoever you are "Gibbo". but since you obviously haven't noticed, i haven't had anything to say about Iraq for a very long time. everything i think has already been said, and better. in any case, it's ludicrous for you to argue bloggers of any persuasion have an obligation to blog. get stuffed.

by the way, i'm assuming you also think President bush is a "gutless whinging fuckwit" since he specifically avoided mentioning Iraq, and its elections, in his inauguaration speech.

Gianna, that was quick! Busted googling yourself eh?
Don't flatter yourself. Your opinion is as worthless as it has always been. As far as "Obligation" goes... I never mentioned it. You need to filter out some of the voices in your head. Just pick one and go with that.
You might try starting sentences with a capital letter too. It's not that hard really.

Gibbo, you missed Sophie's post - 'Ave Iraq!' - at Troppo:

Thanks Tim. Correction has been made.

Thanks Murph.
The whole Gianna thing is a bit strange. I doubt vey much that she is a regular reader of Gibbos Place but she was here less than an hour after I wrote that post. Hmmmm!
What is it about lefties and (lack of) punctuation? Is that how you "rage against the machine" or something?

Jeremy said...

Actually, Gibbo, apart from commenting on it tonight, I also commented on it on Friday. Perhaps you should actually read the blog before describing what it does and doesn't say.

But you're right - as an election, it's got so many flaws that it's barely worth commenting on.

That useless damn loony left, always getting upset about wars of convenience and failing to join their righty brethren and sistren in desperate syncophancy.

Gibbo, I've rather been waiting to see the extent of military interference in the election. So far, there's 44 body bags ad a result of mortar attacks etc. on polling stations. Yes, there's some good happysnaps of people with purple fingertips in the dailies. I hope all these smiling voters get home with all of their fingers still attached.

Given the situation of a country actively at war, with direct death threats on prospective voters, I can't see this exercise being much more than a rudimentary operant function, proving that the occupation forces can conduct something which looks like an election. I don't think we will get a result with believable numbers one might expect in a stable democratic country. I'm fairly confident the result will be a rubber-stamp of the Coalition's preferred candidates.

This is not to say such an election under duress is necessarily a bad thing or is no sort of forward progress; it's just that the way we got here from there will come back to haunt the US for decades. Iraq *should* have been freed from Saddam's grip, but in a way that didn't shit off the entire Muslim world.

Regrettably, I'm not often polled by those who tar me with the 'filthy leftie' label. Like any other thinking soul, 'leftie' or not, I was never opposed to Saddam's ouster. However, the ends do not always justify the means; The US should have supported a MUCH more vigorous weapons inspection program instead of adopting unilateral action. The Bushie course will leave the yanks swatting Zarqawi descendents for the next 50 years.

Worst, the tactics of torture and Bush's preachery use of the vernacular of crusaders have made it clear to the entire Muslim world that America has declared holy war, whether Americans want to belive this or not.

Quagmire Accomplished.

Right, now that I'm done with the biz for my American citizenship, let's look at the implications for Australia.

No matter what the fridge magnet says, by joining the now-defunct 'Coalition of the Willing,' Australia and Australians became targets. Bali & Australian embassy bombings are direct results.

Yes- I'll pin Bali on HoWARd. If he had not made the decision to suckhole Shrub, that attack would not have happened.

It would not have been isolationist nor shortsighted of Australia to not have joined the US unilateral military action. Had Australia supported action against Saddam via the UN, the anger of those affected would have been believably divided amongst the UN member states.

If Australia would support an effective world security strategy via active support and advocacy of a strong UN, the world would be a safer place in general.

HoWARd's no dummy regarding how to get re-elected. His strategy of coattailing the U$A into Iraq would most likely serve up some economic benefit to Australia through friendlier trade arrangements and other deals achieved through networking. As long as HoWARd's domestic strategy favours business and prioritises trade with the USA over Asia, such foreign policy would most likely lead to stronger economic conditions- which as we have recently seen in Australia, gets you re-elected.

Regardless, the cause of peaceful human existence is not served by jockeying a nation's economic future for the main purpose of one's own political survival at all costs.

Newspapers and wire services exist to provide the bar-to-bar coverage you seem to be asking for. That's a bit beyond the scope of all bloggers who might have some life happening on the side.

All blogs are different; mine's a fairly informal political blog; a notepad. I don't have the amounts of time to put in as may the Rob Corrs and Joe Cannons of the world. Blogging just isn't my life.

If ya need more dedication than that, I'm sure you can find a variety that suits.

Wow, I wish I had this much luck when I tried "fishing" in my youth! What's that line about using the right bait?
Thanks to all for bringing your own particular style of love to my humble blog.

Weezil, the 2005 edition of the "Cliche Handbook" must be out early. Good to see you having been brushing up.
Who is "the Muslim World" anyway? Does it include the poor smiling people with the purple fingers? Maybe it's just the few Mad clerics who see their corrupt powerbase shrinking every day?
I can't wait until GWB and hoWARd go and the "Muslim World" can return to its' peaceful past. If you close your eyes and wish real hard, you can see the kiddies with their kites now!
As far as being a "filthie(sic) leftie", I never said that, but if the shoe fits...

Classic stuff Weez, well done. John Howard appreciates your efforts greatly.

Gibbo,

the Weezer seems to be particularly sensitive to criticism.

Check out this post of his, then check out the comments.

Yeah, poor old w(h)eezer suffers from Rex Mossop syndrome. Never say one word when fifty will do.
He seems to be nice chap but needs to come out and admit that he is deeply in love with Darp. Hey, it's cool these days!

Gibbo said...

Hey, all I said was that she was quick. What the fuck is the problem with you folks? Cheer up!!
Seriously though, don't go changing too much. I appreciate the humour in your stupidity.

"I agree with Gianna and saint that there's no obligation to blog on anything."

Well so do I, perhaps you can remind some of your clan of this.

"Yes- I'll pin Bali on HoWARd. If he had not made the decision to suckhole Shrub, that attack would not have happened. "

So When the terrorist said it was because of East Timor they really meant "suckhole Shrub". mmm

Have you ever noticed how the right-wing types always go for the gratuitous personal insult straight up? No coherant arguments; just sluts, single mothers and whores. Yet another reason why I cringe when I admit that I used to be a Liberal. Nothing will turn you off that party more than being surrounded by these red-hot lunatics.

Grow up Adam. There are a few comments here that aren't complimentary sure but, sheesh, it is certainly not one sided. I get called much worse than this on a regular basis by loony lefties. This is just another example of leftist hypocrisy. You can dish it out but when it's time to cop one on the chin, you bend over and cop it up the arse. Grow a couple of nuts and cheer up a bit. You look rather silly struggling to stay on your high-horse.

Bloody hell Adam, If you think your a fence sitter then you've got both legs on one side.

Gibbo: You are a cockmunching spastic and your blog sucks.

Gibbo said...

Ever the intellectual aren't we Alex. Did you make that up all by yourself or are you sitting round your computer with a bunch of pimply faced losers like yourself. You might want to try going out in the sunshine sometime or girls instead of masturbation.
Just be a bit careful about who you go calling a cockmunching spastic though. It might be a while since I've bitten anyones nose off, but I still remember how it goes!
Had your cock munched lately? By a girl that is, not your spotty mates. Hey, I'll bet your one of those geeks who can blow himself. That's quite an achievement for a bloke with a TicTac cock.
If you are going to cry like the adolescent girl you are, everytime someone says something unpleasant about you, you'd better buy a big box of tissues.
Now, off and play with your Barbie dolls, loser.

Alex the sharing and caring leftie refers to someone as a spastic? you need to go back to the P/C leftist re-education camp boy. I've worked with 'spastics' and we prefer to call their condition 'cerebral palsy'. you're a sad excuse for a human being. ////Jim Kelly.

Oh dear. Obviously you fucktards haven't even made an effort, otherwise you'd realise that not only do I think right-wingers are mentally, socially and physically deficient, but I am unlikely to treat you biggoted, misanthropic down-syndrome rejects with even the slightest bit of courtesy.

Oh Alex, you are a complete classic! I love it when little kids try to sound "all grown up".

In a matter of a few stupid comments you have shown the bigotry of your pea brain. Maintain your rage though. The filthy hatred emanating from the loony left side of politics will help keep John Howard in power for years to come.

Back to squeezing your pimples or does Mummy do it for you?
You are simply too stupid to understand how stupid you are.

Just to kick off a new debate.

Hmm, I only very rarely write about politics. But I'm touched that you put me up there with all those other top political blogs.

Credit where credit is due - "Apart from the usual, shameless self promotion, Darp has nothing to say.
Apart from shamelessly promoting Darp, Weezil has nothing to say.
" made me laugh (sorry guys).

"Gutless, whinging, fuckwits who make no positive contribution"... that's actually a pretty good characterisation of my blog so... meh. True, I guess.
